Basketball Coaching Drills-Basketball Drills For Guards
Use basketball drills for guards to dominate back court battles!
Having a strong back court can help you win games in so many different ways. No one will have the ball more come game time than your point guard and off guard. Therefore, it is imperative that they have their skills honed in, and are equipped with all of the necessary tools to dominate the back court wars. Here are some drills that are guard specific, and will have your guards playing better all round basketball, and with loads of confidence.
Basketball Drills For Guards-Drill 1: Kills
This drill begins by dribbling the ball waste high at first. Then the player will “kill” it by dribbling the ball as low to the ground as possible, and holding the dribble there for a few seconds. The player will then retreat back to the waste high dribble for just a few seconds. Do this several time with both hands.
This drill will really help ball handling skills and work finger and hand strength for optimum ball control.
Basketball Drills For Guards-Drill 2: Front Side V Dribble
This drill begins with a slow jog while dribbling with your strong hand. Then dribble the ball in front of you, as if you are going to cross over, but instead roll your hand over the top of the ball and bring it back to your strong side. Repeat this drill numerous times with your strong and weak hand.
This is a great drill for working the overall feel for the ball, not to mention it is a killer move come game time.
Basketball Drills For Guards-Drill 3: 2 Up 2 Back
Start this drill by setting up a cone or a chair approximately 21-22 feet from the basket at the top of the key. Take a few hard dribbles towards the cone or chair, and then retreat with 2 back up dribbles. Change directions with a crossover or another direction changing move and proceed past the chair or cone for a pull up jump shot at the elbow. Repeat the drill and alternate elbow jump shots.
This is a great drill for practicing real life game like drills. Always make sure you go hard to simulate game speeds.
All of these basketball drills for guards can improve overall play dramatically if practiced consistently and hard.
