Basketball Coaching Drills-Basketball Rebounding Drills
Use Basketball Rebounding Drills And Win The Rebound Battle Every Game
As a basketball coach, you know exactly how important rebounding the basketball is in relationship to your teams success. Dominating another team on the boards can break their spirit, especially if you are always holding them to one shot, and gathering numerous offensive rebounds for yourself to allow for 2nd chance points. Here are a few simple, yet highly effective basketball rebounding drills that can help your team start dominating the boards right away.
BASKETBALL REBOUNDING DRILLS 1: 3 ON 2 BLOCKOUT
A coach will begin with a ball underneath a basket. He will line up 3 offensive players, 1 at the point, and 2 at the wings at the 3 point line. Line 2 defensive players up on the blocks, facing the offensive players. The coach will pass the ball to one of the offensive players who will shoot. The other 2 offensive players will crash the boards, and the 2 defenders have to box out the 2 non shooters. The shooter does not go for the rebound.
This drill will work both offensive and defensive rebounding.
BASKETBALL REBOUNDING DRILLS 2: 1-2-3
This drill will start with 3 players lining up in the paint, numbered 1,2, and 3. Put one person at the top of the arc, and 1 player in each corner just beyond 3 point territory. A coach will yell out 1,2, or 3 and then pass the ball to any one of the lines. When that person shoots, the person who’s number was called out proceeds to go and box out the shooter. If the shooter rebounds it they can play on.
This is a fun drill that will also teach basic box out fundamentals.
BASKETBALL REBOUNDING DRILLS 3: POWER DRILL
Throw the ball off the board and set up in a rebounding position, with a wide, strong base. Jump and grab the ball with both hands at the top of your jump and bring it straight down. Keep the ball up, out, and away from your body. You can also practice bringing the ball down and then right back up for a shot.
A good drill for learning to grab the ball with 2 hands, and strong.
